课程描述

·全年分3个学期,秋季,春季和夏季,学生可以按学年 或学期报名

·小班授课(10-15人)

·学生上课不受地理位置的限制,不必通勤,可以在任何有网络的地方上课

·老师/学生在网上发布/提交作业,老师在网上批改后 发给学生,每学期老师给学生评价

·每次上课的视频在网上发布,学生可以随时回顾和复 习,因故不能上课的学生可以补课

 

例1:小学阅读课程介绍

教学目的是引导、激发学生对英语学习兴趣,通过典型书目学习培养学生的阅读兴趣,提高独立阅读能力。
课程内容:按照美国小学英文学习要求进行词汇学习和理解,阅读理解小说内容,情节发展和人物分析。引导学生将学习小说中的元素并应用到讨论中。

例2: 初中阅读课程介绍

按照美国初中英文教学要求,进行词汇学习和 理解,阅读理解和诠释小说内容,情节发展和人 物分析。每星期学生阅读三到四个章节小说,并 带着对小说的标注和准备的主要情节点到课上讨 论。引导、激发学生对英语学习兴趣,着重对学 生的批判性思维进行训练,通过典型书目学习培 养学生的阅读兴趣,提高独立阅读能力和分析能 力。每本小说结束时学生完成读书报告(book report)。

·使学生理解写作要求和提高英文写作能力,通过典型文 体写作的训练培养学生的写作技巧。

·从五段式文章的基本指导开始,然后进展到具体的写作 形式。

·课程使用现代语言协会指南的规则,这个规则在美国学 术界广泛使用。

·每周学生有家庭作业。

·教材为美国老师编写。

·每学期结束时学生完成一个写作作品集(writing portfolio)

美国历史课程介绍

·按照美国中学美国历史课程要求,学习从1700年到目前的美国历 史,将专注于美国的创建,发展,扩张,成功和失败。历史不仅 仅是学习事实。虽然这是其中的一部分,历史要求学生把这些事 实和文化(宗教,政治,经济),环境等相结合。即使这是美国 历史课程,重要的阅读和写作技能将适用。

·以每周1次课,每次1.5小时为例,全年内容包括: 秋季:Founding the nation to the civil war, 共22.5小时 春季:Transformation of the nation to World War II, 共22.5小时 暑期:The cold war to the present, 共22.5小时

·Evaluation of Progress

·Amy seemed to enjoy the class well. In general, she was prepared and was a willing participant. At times, she did struggle to answer questions when she was called upon to participate in class. However, I did feel that Amy was doing the reading assignments, if perhaps struggling a bit to understand the books. While reading aloud, Amy’s oral fluency was good.

·One area that I want her to improve upon is her vocabulary. She should keep a vocabulary journal and every new word she encounters through her reading, I’d suggest she write it down, define it and use it in an original sentence. Amy should also begin to take the initiative at the start of class by offering points of discussion. She must also be more proactive in discussion and this will amplify her language skills even more! This will help Amy become even more proactive. Most schools today are looking for students to take the initiative so I would challenge Amy to keep her reader’s notebook steadily, pose questions to her peers with poignant analysis questions, and add to points made in discussion.

·Recommendation: Amy would benefit from our fall semester in Middle School Reading to continue strengthening her skills in reading and comprehension further. She must continue to participate well, offer analysis, and be prepared for classical and complex works.

·Amanda’s writing skills have strongly progressed during our summer semester. In class, she demonstrated enthusiasm and was prepared to answer questions when called upon.

·Amanda’s writing has many strengths: she writes clear, properly written sentences, organizes her paragraphs and essays well using transition words or phrases to help her ideas flow more easily, and uses strong diction (word choice).

·Amanda’s writing topics varied greatly and she was able to support her point of view or thesis statement well. She would benefit from developing her main ideas more effectively by using more examples, details or evidence to support her reasons. Also, Amanda needs to proofread her writing to watch for run-on sentences and fragments.

·She did fine work this semester!

·Recommendation Amanda would benefit from continuing to strength her writing skills in the High School Writing Class.
